Blacksmithing 101: Forging Fundamentals
This two-day workshop focuses on forging techniques that have been used for hundreds of years.
Our goal is to provide students with ample opportunity to build a set of foundational hand skills.
You will learn how to manage a solid fuel fire, and how to use a variety of hammers and hand tools to effectively shape hot steel.
We will show you how to taper, bend, fuller, swage, chisel, twist and punch the steel.
In our 2400 sq ft teaching facility we have eight individual work-stations, each equipped with all the hand tools you will need: hammers, tongs, chisels, punches, hot rasps, files etc.
A classroom area at the front of the shop is used for drawing, designs and presentations.
No previous metalworking or drawing experience is necessary. All that’s required is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn!
Class runs from 9am-5pm with a 1h lunch.
All materials, safety equipment, coffee and tea and water will be provided.
Lunch is available in town / an indoor lunch area with a microwave and fridge is provided on site if you bring your own food. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. See you there!
